What a fun cookie and a favorite of mine growing up. I've seen lots of variations of recipes, but a true Snickerdoodle has "cream of tarter."
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 stick unsalted butter
- 2 eggs
- 2 3/4 flour
- 2 teaspoons cream of tarter
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- 4 teaspoons cinnamon
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees
- Cream together shortening, butter and eggs
- Sift together the flour, cream of tarter, baking soda and salt
- Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients in three batches mixing with electric mixer between each addition
- Combine sugar and cinnamon
- Roll dough into one inch balls and roll to cover in cinnamon/sugar mixture
- Bake for 8-10 minutes
