Snickerdoodles

What a fun cookie and a favorite of mine growing up. I've seen lots of variations of recipes, but a true Snickerdoodle has "cream of tarter."


  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 stick unsalted butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 3/4 flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tarter
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 4 teaspoons cinnamon

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  2. Cream together shortening, butter and eggs
  3. Sift together the flour, cream of tarter, baking soda and salt
  4. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients in three batches mixing with electric mixer between each addition
  5. Combine sugar and cinnamon
  6. Roll dough into one inch balls and roll to cover in cinnamon/sugar mixture
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes

Salty Oat Cookies


After hearing my friend talk about how much she liked Salty Oat Cookies, I thought I would look up a recipe. How could they be bad salty/sweet combination is my favorite; chocolate covered pretzels, kettle corn etc.

Here is the recipe I found on Recipezaar, the cookies turned out delicious!

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter (cold)
  • 1 cup light brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flower
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • kosher salt
  • raisins

  1. Slice "cold" butter into small pieces and whip in your mixer for a minute or so
  2. Add both sugars, baking powder, baking soda and the cinnamon. With mixer combine at medium speed until the mixture has a crumbly texture
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla and mix again until combined
  4. With mixer on low speed, slowly add flower
  5. DON'T OVER MIX
  6. Gently fold in the oats and raisins
  7. Chill the dough for at least an hour
  8. Preheat over to 375
  9. Drop dough by heaping tablespoons onto cookie sheet
  10. Lightly sprinkle cookies with Kosher salt
  11. Bake ro 12-15 minutes
